The S58 is BMW M's current 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six — the closed-deck, high-pressure-fuelling engine behind the G80 M3, G82 M4, G87 M2 and the X3 M / X4 M. It is one of the most responsive platforms on the market to a custom tune.

What the S58 responds to

The S58 leaves the factory deliberately conservative on boost and timing to protect warranty and meet emissions. A custom calibration unlocks that headroom: more boost held for longer, optimised timing and fuelling, faster torque delivery and a transmission that holds gears the way you'd expect from an M car. Stage 1 is software-only on stock hardware; the gains scale hard once you add a downpipe and let it breathe.

Why a custom S58 map beats off-the-shelf

Every S58 reads slightly differently — fuel quality, intake and exhaust hardware, ambient temperature and your goals all change the right map. Samuel calibrates each S58 individually against your datalogs rather than flashing a generic file, so the tune is matched to your exact car and the fuel you actually run. Flex-fuel (E85) builds in particular need bespoke fuelling that no OTS map can safely cover.

Hardware path

Stage 1 needs nothing but software. Stage 2 wants a downpipe (OPF/GPF delete where legal for your market) and benefits from an upgraded intake and charge cooling. For E85 you add a flex-fuel kit and Samuel builds a dedicated ethanol map. Beyond that, the S58 takes upgraded turbos for genuine big-power builds — at which point the calibration is fully bespoke around your hardware.
