About this tune
The G82 / G83 M4 (2021-present) is the coupe and convertible companion to the G80 M3, same S58 twin-scroll twin-turbo straight-six, same MG1 DME, same 8HP gearbox. Stock is 503 bhp / 650 Nm on the Competition (which accounts for almost the entire UK market). Available as the G82 coupe and G83 convertible, with Competition xDrive and Competition RWD options. The M4 Competition is one of the most-tuned modern M cars in the UK; the S58 underneath has substantial headroom from factory.
BMW M4 tuning
Take the G80's running gear, drop it into a two-door body and you have the G82 M4, with the G83 convertible alongside it, and between them they account for a huge share of the S58 cars Samuel calibrates. The Competition dominates the UK market at 503 bhp, and because that output is set in software rather than metal, the M4 has become one of the most-tuned modern M cars in the country.
A Stage 1 file lifts the M4 Competition from 503 bhp and 650 Nm to 650 bhp and 800 Nm without a single part changed. Owners chasing more fit downpipes, a midpipe and intakes for Stage 2's 720 bhp and 900 Nm, where the Flex Fuel option brings up to 800 bhp on E50. Whether your car is Competition xDrive, Competition RWD or a manual, the map is calibrated around that exact configuration.
For the biggest builds the S58 in the M4 will support around 1500 bhp on full-frame turbo hardware with port injection and flex fuel, each one calibrated bespoke. The G82 and G83 need their locked DME opened once before tuning begins, a routine step, and after that every file is delivered remotely through BM3, MHD or MG Flasher within 24 hours with the stock calibration retained for a full return to standard.

BMW M4 tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the G82 S58
The G82 / G83 M4 (2021-present) runs the S58, the same 3.0-litre twin-scroll twin-turbo straight-six fitted to the G80 M3, G87 M2 and F97 / F98 X3 M / X4 M. From the factory, BMW set the M4 Competition at 503 bhp / 650 Nm; the hardware ceiling sits considerably higher. BMW M4 tuning with Samuel applies the same S58 Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Stage 2 Flex map family used on the M3, with a calibration matched to the G82 coupe or G83 convertible. BMW M4 G82 tuning works identically on Competition xDrive and Competition RWD variants, the engine, ECU and tune are the same.
Stage 1
650 bhp · 800 Nm
No hardware required. The MG1 DME is flashed via the OBD port, boost, ignition timing, fuel delivery and torque limiters all revised. BMW M4 Stage 1 unlocks 650 bhp and 800 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 503 / 650 stock on the Competition). The BMW M4 chip tuning starting point, and the largest single performance step you can take on a Competition without touching exhaust hardware.
Every M4 tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW M4 tuning done correctly accounts for the G82 / G83 chassis behaviour, the xDrive or RWD drivetrain calibration, the 8HP gearbox, and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.

FAQ
M4 tuning — frequently asked questions
The 503 bhp figure is where BMW chose to stop, not where the hardware does. Stage 1 shows the gap: 650 bhp and 800 Nm from the same turbos, injectors and intercooling, purely through calibration. Few production engines leave that much on the table, which is exactly why so many M4s end up tuned within months of purchase.
Yes. The G83 shares the coupé's engine, DME and drivetrain options, so all stage targets apply unchanged. Samuel treats it as its own car during calibration, working from your build details and fuel rather than transplanting a coupé file, so the finished map reflects the car it is actually going on.
G-series M cars ship with write-protection on the DME, so before the first tune the ECU goes through a one-time unlock. It is a standard part of the process on every G82 and G83, it never has to be repeated, and once complete the M4 flashes over OBD as freely as the F-series cars did.
With the Stage 2 hardware and the Flex Fuel option fitted, the M4 runs E50 blends and picks up as much as 800 bhp from the added octane and charge cooling. Beyond that, flex-fuel kits are part of the hybrid and big-turbo packages, where ethanol content becomes central to how far the calibration can safely push.
You choose your stage, send Samuel the car's details, fuel, hardware, gearbox and how you drive it, and receive a hand-built calibration in your BM3, MHD or MG Flasher account within 24 hours. Flashing takes about fifteen minutes through the OBD port, and the saved stock file means the whole thing reverses whenever needed.
