About this tune

The G82 / G83 M4 (2021-present) is the coupe and convertible companion to the G80 M3, same S58 twin-scroll twin-turbo straight-six, same MG1 DME, same 8HP gearbox. Stock is 503 bhp / 650 Nm on the Competition (which accounts for almost the entire UK market). Available as the G82 coupe and G83 convertible, with Competition xDrive and Competition RWD options. The M4 Competition is one of the most-tuned modern M cars in the UK; the S58 underneath has substantial headroom from factory.

BMW M4 tuning

The BMW M4 (G82 / G83, 2021–present) runs the S58 and leaves the factory at 503 bhp · 650 Nm (Competition), RWD or M xDrive, 8-speed M Steptronic or 6-speed manual. Samuel tunes the G82 Coupe and G83 Convertible to the same standard — every map hand-calibrated for the specific car, its fuel grade and its installed hardware, not a base file loaded and left. M4 Stage 1 alone takes it from 503 bhp · 650 Nm (Competition) to 650 bhp · 800 Nm on the standard turbo, flashed over OBD on BM3, MHD or MG Flasher.

Add the Stage 2 hardware and the M4 targets 720 bhp · 900 Nm; from there the S58 stretches to around 1500 bhp on a hybrid or big-turbo build with supporting fuelling. Whichever stage suits the M4, the file is delivered within 24 hours and is fully reversible to the supplied stock calibration.

BMW M4 tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the G82 S58

The G82 / G83 M4 (2021-present) runs the S58, the same 3.0-litre twin-scroll twin-turbo straight-six fitted to the G80 M3, G87 M2 and F97 / F98 X3 M / X4 M. From the factory, BMW set the M4 Competition at 503 bhp / 650 Nm; the hardware ceiling sits considerably higher. BMW M4 tuning with Samuel applies the same S58 Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Stage 2 Flex map family used on the M3, with a calibration matched to the G82 coupe or G83 convertible. BMW M4 G82 tuning works identically on Competition xDrive and Competition RWD variants, the engine, ECU and tune are the same.

Stage 1

650 bhp · 800 Nm

No hardware required. The MG1 DME is flashed via the OBD port, boost, ignition timing, fuel delivery and torque limiters all revised. BMW M4 Stage 1 unlocks 650 bhp and 800 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 503 / 650 stock on the Competition). The BMW M4 chip tuning starting point, and the largest single performance step you can take on a Competition without touching exhaust hardware.

Every M4 tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW M4 tuning done correctly accounts for the G82 / G83 chassis behaviour, the xDrive or RWD drivetrain calibration, the 8HP gearbox, and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.

M4 Stage 1 lifts the S58 from a stock 503 bhp · 650 Nm (Competition) to 650 bhp · 800 Nm, with no hardware required. The map is flashed through the OBD port on BM3, MHD or MG Flasher and is the starting point for almost every M4 owner — broader torque and sharper throttle response from the factory hardware.

This page covers the G82 Coupe and G83 Convertible (G82 / G83). They share the S58 engine and run the same core calibration, but every M4 tune Samuel delivers is tailored to your exact car, fuel grade and installed hardware — never a base map loaded and left.

Stage 2 on the M4 targets 720 bhp · 900 Nm and needs downpipes + midpipe + intakes. Everything else — turbo, fuel system, intercooler — holds within the Stage 2 figures on the S58.

On the right hardware spec the S58 in the M4 reaches around 1500 bhp. Stage 1 and Stage 2 run the standard turbo; beyond that needs a hybrid or full big-turbo conversion with supporting fuelling, and the calibration is built bespoke per car.

Yes — later M4 (G82 / G83) cars ship with a locked DME that must be unlocked once before any map can be written. It's a one-time step; after that the M4 flashes normally over OBD and the tune is fully reversible to the supplied stock file.

Remotely. Once Samuel has your build details, the calibrated M4 map is delivered to your flashing tool account (BM3, MHD or MG Flasher) within 24 hours and you flash it yourself over OBD in about 15 minutes. It's fully reversible — the original S58 stock file is supplied before you flash, so the car can return to factory at any time.

A factory warranty can be voided if BMW shows a tune caused a specific failure, so it's a personal call. Samuel's M4 maps are calibrated to stay within the mechanical limits of the S58 hardware, and because the tune is reversible to stock before any dealer visit, many owners run a tuned M4 without issue.
