About this tune

The F98 X4 M (2019-present) is the coupe-SUV variant of the X3 M, same S58 drivetrain, same MG1 DME, in a lower-roofline body with xDrive standard. Stock is 503 bhp / 600 Nm on the Competition (effectively the only spec sold in Europe). The X4 M is the rarer of the two M-division SUVs in the UK; tuning works identically to the X3 M and uses the same Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Stage 2 Flex map family.

BMW X4 M tuning

Choose the F98 X4 M over its X3 M sister and you trade the upright tailgate for a coupé roofline, ending up with the rarer of the two M SUVs on UK roads. Underneath, the full S58 drivetrain is intact, and owners tune the X4 M for the same reason they bought it: it is the left-field choice that gives nothing away mechanically to the M3 and M4.

Samuel takes the X4 M Competition's factory 503 bhp and 600 Nm to 650 bhp and 800 Nm at Stage 1, still on standard hardware, then to 720 bhp and 900 Nm at Stage 2 once downpipes, a midpipe and intakes are fitted. On E50 blends the Flex Fuel option releases up to 800 bhp. Standard xDrive means the sloped-roof body wastes none of it.

A one-off DME unlock comes first, since F98s are locked from the factory, and afterwards the car accepts maps over OBD indefinitely. Serious projects can push the S58 towards 1500 bhp with full turbo conversions and supporting fuel. Samuel works entirely remotely: send your build, receive a hand-calibrated file on BM3, MHD or MG Flasher within 24 hours, and keep the stock file for the day you want factory settings back.

Engine guide

BMW X4 M tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the F98 S58

The F98 X4 M (2019-present) is the coupe-SUV variant of the X3 M, same S58 drivetrain, same MG1 DME, in a lower-roofline body with the same xDrive system. From the factory, BMW set the X4 M Competition at 503 bhp / 600 Nm; the hardware ceiling sits considerably higher. BMW X4 M tuning with Samuel applies the same S58 Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Stage 2 Flex map family used on the X3 M and M3 / M4, same calibration, same hardware, different body style. BMW X4 M F98 tuning and BMW X4 M Competition tuning use the same map.

Stage 1

650 bhp · 800 Nm

No hardware required. The MG1 DME is flashed via the OBD port. BMW X4 M Stage 1 unlocks 650 bhp and 800 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 503 / 600 stock on the Competition). The BMW X4 M chip tuning starting point, the most cost-effective change you can make to BMW's coupe-SUV M variant.

Every X4 M tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW X4 M tuning done correctly accounts for the F98 SUV-coupe chassis behaviour, xDrive calibration, the 8HP gearbox and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.

FAQ

X4 M tuning — frequently asked questions

The two share every mechanical component that matters, S58, DME, xDrive and gearbox, so the stage structure and targets are identical. What Samuel does not do is hand an X4 M an X3 M's file: each calibration is produced for the specific car from its own details, fuel and hardware.

On Stage 2 hardware with the Flex Fuel option, yes. E50 blends are supported and worth up to 800 bhp thanks to ethanol's octane and charge-cooling benefits. Higher-ethanol running belongs to the hybrid and big-turbo calibrations, where a flex-fuel kit is part of the specified hardware.

As far as any S58 car; the platform supports around 1500 bhp at the top end. The path runs from a hybrid turbo at 800 bhp and up, to a full-frame turbo kit with port injection and flex fuel. Every build past Stage 2 is calibrated individually against the exact parts fitted.

Yes, within sensible limits for a heavy performance SUV. Samuel's calibrations hold conservative boost and temperature targets under sustained load, so the map is not the weak point; brakes and tyres will surrender first. Tell Samuel the car sees circuit use and the file is shaped with that duty cycle in mind.

If BMW ties a failure to the software, a claim can be refused; no honest tuner will say otherwise. What Samuel controls is the margin: X4 M maps are calibrated inside the hardware's proven limits, and restoring the supplied factory file before a dealer visit removes the tune from the car entirely.
