About this tune
The F56 JCW shares the B48 turbo four with the Cooper S but leaves the factory in a stronger state of tune (~228–231 bhp). Stage 1 is software-only; Stage 2 adds an intercooler, sports cat/decat and intake. The JCW pistons are stronger than the Cooper S, so it carries Stage 2 figures more comfortably. 99 RON strongly recommended.
MINI John Cooper Works 3-door Hatch tuning
The John Cooper Works 3-door is the sharpest tool MINI makes — the factory hot hatch with the stiffer setup, bigger brakes and the B48 in its higher state of tune. People who buy an F56 JCW already care about pace, which makes them natural tuning customers: the engine ships with deliberate headroom, and its internals are built to use it.
Factory output is 228–231 bhp and 320 Nm. Samuel's Stage 1 software takes the JCW to 270–290 bhp with 380–420 Nm on untouched hardware, and because the JCW's pistons are stronger than the Cooper S items, it carries those figures with margin to spare. Stage 2 — intercooler, sports cat or decat, intake — moves the target to 290–310 bhp and 440–470 Nm.
The ceiling sits around 400 bhp with a larger or hybrid turbo and supporting fuelling, calibrated bespoke around your spec. As with every SamuelTuned car, the work is remote and reversible: your file is built by hand, delivered to BM3, MHD or MG Flasher within 24 hours, and the stock JCW calibration is banked before the first flash.

MINI John Cooper Works tuning — B48 / B46 stages and hardware (F56 / F57 JCW)
The MINI John Cooper Works runs the same BMW B48 turbo four as the Cooper S, but leaves the factory in a higher state of tune (~228–231 bhp on the F56 hatch and F57 Convertible). The JCW also uses stronger internals than the low-compression Cooper S, so it carries Stage 2 figures more comfortably. MINI JCW tuning with Samuel is about extracting the calibration headroom cleanly across the range, then scaling with hardware where you want more.
Stage 1
270–290 bhp · 380–420 Nm
ECU/DME software only on stock hardware via the OBD port. The JCW responds cleanly to a proper calibration across the rev range. 99 RON strongly recommended.
Every MINI JCW tune is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and hardware, and reviewed against your data logs before sign-off.
Compatibility
Platform and hardware compatibility

Bootmod3 (BM3)
Full support for the B48 / B46 MINI range (Cooper S and JCW across F54, F55, F56, F57, F60). OBD-port flashing on the MEVD17 / MG1CS003 DME, realtime monitoring via the BM3 app. The most widely used platform for MINI B48 tuning.

MHD
B48 support suitable for Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the MINI range. Strong data-logging toolset for verifying lambda, ignition correction and intake temperatures after each flash — especially useful for keeping the low-compression Cooper S safe.

MG Flasher
Full B48 / MINI support on the MG1CS003 DME. Clean interface and a reliable flash process, a common choice for owners who prefer the MG ecosystem.

xHP Flashtool
For MINIs fitted with the Aisin/ZF automatic. Recommended at Stage 2 where torque climbs, to handle the extra load cleanly. Manual cars do not need xHP.

ECU: MEVD17 / MG1CS003 DME across MINI B48 production (B46 = US emissions-equivalent code, same engine). Accessible via the OBD port — no bench flash required for Stage 1 or Stage 2.

FAQ
JCW 3-door tuning — frequently asked questions
Another 40–60 bhp and up to 100 Nm — Stage 1 lifts the F56 JCW from 228–231 bhp and 320 Nm to 270–290 bhp with 380–420 Nm, all through software. The factory tune is conservative by design; a proper hand calibration wakes up throttle response and fills the flat spots the standard map leaves.
Yes — this is where buying the JCW pays off. Its pistons are a stronger specification than the Cooper S versions, so the 290–310 bhp and 440–470 Nm that Stage 2 targets sit comfortably within the engine's mechanical limits on the supporting hardware. Forged internals only enter the conversation for the upper reaches of a Stage 3 turbo build.
Through calibration as much as chassis. Samuel shapes torque delivery by gear so first and second stay usable rather than lighting up the tyres, building to full output as speed rises. Combined with decent rubber and the JCW's more aggressive factory chassis, the result is a car that is fast everywhere, not just on paper.
The F56 JCW came with a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic, and both flash the same way through the OBD port. The calibration differs in delivery: the automatic's file manages torque during shifts to protect the transmission, while manual cars get the most linear possible curve. State your gearbox with your build and the right version is supplied.
A larger or hybrid turbo with supporting fuelling, plus forged internals for the upper figures — this is a build rather than a flash. Samuel consults on the complete parts list over WhatsApp first, then writes a bespoke calibration around the exact hardware. It is a project for committed owners, but the B48 platform genuinely supports it.
