About this tune
The F56 JCW shares the B48 turbo four with the Cooper S but leaves the factory in a stronger state of tune (~228–231 bhp). Stage 1 is software-only; Stage 2 adds an intercooler, sports cat/decat and intake. The JCW pistons are stronger than the Cooper S, so it carries Stage 2 figures more comfortably. 99 RON strongly recommended.
MINI John Cooper Works 3-door Hatch tuning
The MINI John Cooper Works 3-door Hatch (F56, 2014–2024) runs the B48 / B46 (US) 2.0L turbocharged inline-four (BMW B48 / B46 US-spec) and leaves the factory at 228–231 bhp · 320 Nm, FWD, 6-speed manual or 8-speed auto. Samuel tunes the F56 3-door Hatch (JCW) to the same standard — every map hand-calibrated for the specific car, its fuel grade and its installed hardware, not a base file loaded and left. JCW 3-door Stage 1 alone takes it from 228–231 bhp · 320 Nm to 270–290 bhp · 380–420 Nm on the standard turbo, flashed over OBD on BM3, MHD or MG Flasher.
Add the Stage 2 hardware and the JCW 3-door targets 290–310 bhp · 440–470 Nm; from there the B48 / B46 (US) stretches to around 400 bhp on a hybrid or big-turbo build with supporting fuelling. Whichever stage suits the JCW 3-door, the file is delivered within 24 hours and is fully reversible to the supplied stock calibration.

MINI John Cooper Works tuning — B48 / B46 stages and hardware (F56 / F57 JCW)
The MINI John Cooper Works runs the same BMW B48 turbo four as the Cooper S, but leaves the factory in a higher state of tune (~228–231 bhp on the F56 hatch and F57 Convertible). The JCW also uses stronger internals than the low-compression Cooper S, so it carries Stage 2 figures more comfortably. MINI JCW tuning with Samuel is about extracting the calibration headroom cleanly across the range, then scaling with hardware where you want more.
Stage 1
270–290 bhp · 380–420 Nm
ECU/DME software only on stock hardware via the OBD port. The JCW responds cleanly to a proper calibration across the rev range. 99 RON strongly recommended.
Every MINI JCW tune is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and hardware, and reviewed against your data logs before sign-off.
Compatibility
Platform and hardware compatibility

Bootmod3 (BM3)
Full support for the B48 / B46 MINI range (Cooper S and JCW across F54, F55, F56, F57, F60). OBD-port flashing on the MEVD17 / MG1CS003 DME, realtime monitoring via the BM3 app. The most widely used platform for MINI B48 tuning.

MHD
B48 support suitable for Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the MINI range. Strong data-logging toolset for verifying lambda, ignition correction and intake temperatures after each flash — especially useful for keeping the low-compression Cooper S safe.

MG Flasher
Full B48 / MINI support on the MG1CS003 DME. Clean interface and a reliable flash process, a common choice for owners who prefer the MG ecosystem.

xHP Flashtool
For MINIs fitted with the Aisin/ZF automatic. Recommended at Stage 2 where torque climbs, to handle the extra load cleanly. Manual cars do not need xHP.

ECU: MEVD17 / MG1CS003 DME across MINI B48 production (B46 = US emissions-equivalent code, same engine). Accessible via the OBD port — no bench flash required for Stage 1 or Stage 2.

FAQ
JCW 3-door tuning — frequently asked questions
JCW 3-door Stage 1 lifts the B48 / B46 (US) from a stock 228–231 bhp · 320 Nm to 270–290 bhp · 380–420 Nm, with no hardware required. The map is flashed through the OBD port on BM3, MHD or MG Flasher and is the starting point for almost every JCW 3-door owner — broader torque and sharper throttle response from the factory hardware.
This page covers the F56 3-door Hatch (JCW) (F56). They share the B48 / B46 (US) 2.0L turbocharged inline-four (BMW B48 / B46 US-spec) and run the same core calibration, but every JCW 3-door tune Samuel delivers is tailored to your exact car, fuel grade and installed hardware — never a base map loaded and left.
Stage 2 on the JCW 3-door targets 290–310 bhp · 440–470 Nm and needs intercooler + decat/sports cat + intake (cooler plugs advised). Everything else — turbo, fuel system, intercooler — holds within the Stage 2 figures on the B48 / B46 (US).
On the right hardware spec the B48 / B46 (US) in the JCW 3-door reaches around 400 bhp. Stage 1 and Stage 2 run the standard turbo; beyond that needs a hybrid or full big-turbo conversion with supporting fuelling, and the calibration is built bespoke per car.
Remotely. Once Samuel has your build details, the calibrated JCW 3-door map is delivered to your flashing tool account (BM3, MHD or MG Flasher) within 24 hours and you flash it yourself over OBD in about 15 minutes. It's fully reversible — the original B48 / B46 (US) stock file is supplied before you flash, so the car can return to factory at any time.
A factory warranty can be voided if BMW shows a tune caused a specific failure, so it's a personal call. Samuel's JCW 3-door maps are calibrated to stay within the mechanical limits of the B48 / B46 (US) hardware, and because the tune is reversible to stock before any dealer visit, many owners run a tuned JCW 3-door without issue.
