About this tune

The F60 Countryman Cooper S shares its B48 turbo four with the hatch (badged B46 on US emissions cars). It is the heaviest MINI here and ALL4 AWD adds more drivetrain loss than the hatch. Stage 1 is software-only; Stage 2 adds an intercooler, sports cat/decat and intake. The low-compression Cooper S needs forged internals before JCW-level power is safe. 99 RON strongly recommended.

MINI Cooper S Countryman tuning

As the biggest MINI, the Countryman asks its engine to do the most work — a tall crossover body, family payloads and, on many cars, ALL4 all-wheel drive all draw on the same 2.0-litre turbo four. That is the honest case for tuning an F60: not to build a hot hatch, but to give a practical family car the reserves its size deserves. Production ran from 2017 to 2024.

Stock output is 189–192 bhp with 280 Nm, and in a car this substantial you feel every one of those numbers being asked to work. Stage 1 from Samuel recalibrates the B48 to 245–260 bhp and 360–400 Nm with no parts required, restoring the urgency the scale takes away. With Stage 2 hardware fitted, the Countryman runs to 270–285 bhp and 420–460 Nm.

A few owners push further — forged pistons and a hybrid turbo open the door towards 400 bhp, scoped as a one-off project. Whatever the stage, nothing interrupts family life: Samuel's file is in your BM3, MHD or MG Flasher account within 24 hours, the flash happens on your driveway, and the original software is preserved so the car can be standard again before any dealer appointment.

MINI Cooper S tuning — B48 / B46 stages, hardware and what to expect (F54 / F55 / F56 / F57 / F60)

The MINI Cooper S runs the BMW B48 2.0-litre turbocharged four — the same engine as the BMW 320i / 330i, badged B46 on US emissions cars. Across the range (F56 3-door, F55 5-door, F57 Convertible, F54 Clubman, F60 Countryman) it leaves the factory around 189–192 bhp, with meaningful headroom left in the calibration for warranty and global fuel variation. MINI Cooper S tuning with Samuel starts by finding exactly where that headroom sits on your specific car and fuel, then building a map that extracts it reliably. One reliability point shapes every Cooper S build: the low-compression Cooper S piston is weaker than the JCW's, so the safe road to big power runs through forged internals before JCW-plus figures.

Stage 1

245–260 bhp · 360–400 Nm

ECU/DME software only, flashed via the OBD port on stock hardware. Sharper throttle, a much broader torque curve and the response the Cooper S should have shipped with. The most cost-effective single change on the platform. 99 RON strongly recommended for the full figure.

Every MINI Cooper S tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, and reviewed against your data logs before sign-off — never a base map loaded and left.

FAQ

Cooper S Countryman tuning — frequently asked questions

The engine gains are identical to any other Cooper S — the B48 neither knows nor cares what body it sits in. What changes is the experience: because the F60 starts with more mass to move, the extra 80–120 Nm of mid-range torque is arguably more transformative here than in the hatch. It is the difference between working the engine and riding the torque.

Both. The F60 Cooper S came in FWD and ALL4 forms and Samuel calibrates for each — the ALL4's extra drivetrain loss shows at the wheels, but its traction lets you use full throttle earlier and more often. Just note which drivetrain you have when you send your build details.

Take it from 189–192 bhp and 280 Nm to 245–260 bhp with 360–400 Nm, purely through software flashed over the OBD port. In-gear acceleration is where the change lands hardest — motorway slip roads and loaded overtakes stop requiring a downshift and a plan.

For the full figures, yes — 99 RON lets the calibration run the ignition advance the numbers depend on, and it is strongly recommended on any aggressive map. If you can only get 95 RON locally, say so up front: Samuel writes the file to the fuel you will genuinely use rather than leaving the knock control to bridge the gap.

It never is. Remote delivery means the Countryman sits on your drive throughout — the calibrated file arrives in your flashing account within 24 hours of ordering, and writing it to the car takes roughly 15 minutes. For a vehicle doing school runs and holiday duty, zero downtime is the point.
