BMW X5 M (F95) tuning

Few cars mix duties like the F95 X5 M: on sale since 2020, it hauls dogs, children and luggage while carrying the same second-generation S63 and M xDrive hardware as the F90 M5. Tuning it is popular precisely because the standard car already does everything well. Owners simply want the everyday SUV to have a genuinely absurd turn of speed when asked.

Competition-spec cars leave the line with 617 bhp and 750 Nm. Stage 1 from Samuel adds 63 bhp and 100 Nm for 680 bhp and 850 Nm on unmodified hardware, while Stage 2, with downpipes and intakes fitted, pushes the F95 to 750 bhp and 900 Nm. Each calibration is made to measure for the individual car: fuel grade, modifications, how it gets used.

The F95 also has the tallest ceiling in the S63 range here, around 1,200 bhp on full big-turbo hardware with supporting fuelling, calibrated one build at a time. All of it happens remotely over BM3, MHD or MG Flasher with a 24-hour file turnaround and a guaranteed route back to stock. The twin locked DMEs are unlocked once, and from then on the X5 M flashes like any other car.

Engine guide

BMW X5 M (F95) tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the second-gen S63

The F95 X5 M runs the second-generation S63, BMW M's revised 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8, shared with the F90 M5 and F92 M8. Updated turbos, refreshed fuelling, MG1 DME, and a sharper factory map versus the first-gen S63 in the F85 X5 M. Stock figure is 617 bhp / 750 Nm on the Competition. BMW X5 M F95 tuning with Samuel takes the F95 X5 M past 680 bhp on the OEM hardware alone, the engine and DME are identical to the F90 M5, so the tuning ceiling is the same.

Stage 1

680 bhp · 850 Nm

No hardware required. The MG1 DME is flashed via the OBD port, boost pressure, ignition timing, fuel delivery and torque limiters all revised. BMW X5 M F95 Stage 1 unlocks 680 bhp / 850 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 617 / 750 stock). Same Stage 1 ceiling as the F90 M5 and F92 M8, the engine is identical.

Every X5 M F95 tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW X5 M F95 tuning done correctly accounts for the F95 chassis weight, the 8HP gearbox calibration, the xDrive transfer and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.

FAQ

X5M (F95) tuning — frequently asked questions

Because BMW left obvious headroom in the second-generation S63. The same engine sits in the M5 and M8, and in the X5 M it runs well within itself, so calibration alone lifts a Competition from 617 bhp and 750 Nm to 680 bhp and 850 Nm with the character intact and nothing mechanical altered.

It informs it. A big SUV loads its engine, gearbox and cooling differently to a saloon, and the torque delivery in the file reflects that rather than copying an M5 curve across. The outputs at each stage are the same as the saloon's because the engines are identical; the delivery is the X5 M's own.

The F95 has the highest ceiling of any S63 car Samuel tunes, around 1,200 bhp, but reaching it means a full big-turbo conversion: full-frame turbochargers, downpipes, intakes and serious supporting fuelling. These are one-off projects quoted individually, with the calibration developed around the complete specification you submit.

F95s ship locked, and the V8 uses a pair of DMEs, so the unlock is performed on both, once, before your first calibration is loaded. It is a single upfront step rather than a recurring cost, and it leaves everything about how the car starts, runs and services exactly as normal.

The honest answer: if a dealer links a failure to tuning they can decline that claim, so owners weigh it themselves. Samuel's side of the bargain is calibrating conservatively relative to the hardware's limits and preserving the factory file, so the X5 M can present standard software before any warranty visit.
