BMW M5 (F90) tuning
An F90 M5 will put its power down in conditions that would leave the older cars spinning, and that is exactly why it responds so well to tuning: M xDrive means every extra horsepower is usable, all year round. Built from 2018 to 2023 with the eight-speed M Steptronic, the F90 is the super-saloon owners drive daily, then tune because the chassis shrugs off far more than 617 bhp.
In Competition form the F90 produces 617 bhp and 750 Nm as standard. Samuel's Stage 1 file takes the second-generation S63 to 680 bhp and 850 Nm without touching the hardware; with downpipes and intakes, Stage 2 raises that again to 750 bhp and 900 Nm, still on the factory turbos. The calibration is built around your car specifically, its fuel grade and fitted parts, not pulled from a shelf.
Serious builds go well past that: on hybrid or full-frame turbos the F90 platform supports builds up to around 1,000 bhp, mapped bespoke to the spec sheet. The whole service is remote via BM3, MHD or MG Flasher, files turned around within 24 hours and always reversible. Because F90s ship with locked DMEs, two of them on the V8, both need a single unlock before anything can be written; it is done once and never again.

BMW M5 F90 tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the second-gen S63
The F90 M5 runs the second-generation S63, BMW M's revised 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with twin-scroll housings, updated turbos and direct injection. Standard F90 M5 ships at 600 bhp; Competition trim at 617 bhp / 750 Nm. BMW M5 F90 tuning with Samuel takes the M5 Competition past 680 bhp on Stage 1 alone, comfortably ahead of the F90 CS spec. The xDrive layout adds no complications to the flash process; the same map runs on every drivetrain config the F90 ships in.
Stage 1
680 bhp · 850 Nm
No hardware required. The MG1CS003 DME is flashed via the OBD port, boost pressure, ignition timing, fuel delivery and torque limiters all revised. BMW M5 F90 Stage 1 unlocks 680 bhp / 850 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 600-617 / 750 stock). The BMW M5 F90 chip tuning starting point for nearly every owner, and the cleanest single change available on the platform.
Every M5 F90 tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW M5 F90 tuning done correctly accounts for the F90 chassis behaviour, the 8HP gearbox calibration, the xDrive logic and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.

FAQ
M5 (F90) tuning — frequently asked questions
Far more usable than in the rear-driven M5s that came before. Four driven wheels let the F90 deploy 850 Nm of Stage 1 torque in conditions that would have an F10 fighting for grip, which is why the tuned F90 works as a genuine all-year daily rather than a fair-weather toy.
Stage 1 takes the second-generation S63 from its factory 617 bhp and 750 Nm to 680 bhp and 850 Nm with no hardware changes at all. It is delivered as a file for BM3, MHD or MG Flasher and written specifically for your car; the throttle sharpens and the torque plateau widens noticeably across the range.
F90-era cars ship with locked DMEs, and because the V8 uses two of them, both are unlocked before your first map goes on. It only ever happens once. From then on the M5 reads and writes calibrations over OBD like any earlier car, whether it is running a tuned file or the stock one.
No, the packages here are engine calibrations, and the gearbox keeps its factory software. Samuel builds the torque curve with the transmission in mind so shifts stay crisp under higher load, and the standard M Steptronic is well matched to the Stage 1 and Stage 2 outputs as delivered.
Honestly: a BMW dealer can reject a warranty claim if they attribute a failure to tuning, so it is a judgement each owner makes. What Samuel controls is the calibration itself, which stays inside sensible mechanical margins, and the tune can be flashed back to the retained stock file before any dealership visit.
