About this tune

The F80 M3 CS (2018) is the send-off special for the F80 M3, a lightweight, sharper-mapped derivative of the standard M3 with the S55 turned up from the factory to 460 bhp / 600 Nm. Saloon only, RWD only, M-DCT only. Limited production run, the most aggressive factory map of any standard F80, and like the M4 CS, it tunes to exactly the same S55 hardware ceiling as the standard cars; it just starts from a higher baseline.

BMW M3 CS tuning

Rarest of the regular-production F80s, the M3 CS arrived in 2018 as the saloon's send-off: a limited run with the most aggressive factory calibration ever put on a standard F80, DCT only, and the stiffened CS chassis under a four-door shell. Owners tune it for the same reason they bought it. It is the F80 at its sharpest, and sharpening it further is purely a software exercise.

From the factory the CS makes 460 bhp and 600 Nm. Samuel's Stage 1 moves that to 520 bhp and 700 Nm with the car mechanically untouched, filling in the mid-range the factory map still restrains. Fit downpipes, a midpipe and intakes and Stage 2 takes the saloon to 560 bhp and 750 Nm, still on standard turbos and still tractable enough for daily use.

The limited badge changes nothing about what the engine can ultimately do: hybrid and big-turbo builds on this platform run to around 1,200 bhp with port injection or HPFP support. For a car this collectible, reversibility matters as much as power. Every file arrives remotely via BM3, MHD or MG Flasher within 24 hours, alongside the original calibration for a complete return to stock.

BMW M3 CS tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the F80 S55

The F80 M3 CS (2018) is the send-off special for the F80 M3, a lightweight, sharper-mapped derivative of the standard F80 with the S55 twin-scroll twin-turbo straight-six tuned from the factory to 460 bhp / 600 Nm (up from 425 / 550 on the standard M3). BMW M3 CS tuning with Samuel applies the same S55 Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Stage 2 Flex map family used on the F80 M3 and F82 M4, the hardware is identical between standard and CS, so the Stage 1 / Stage 2 ceiling is the same. The CS just gets there from a higher starting point.

Stage 1

520 bhp · 700 Nm

No hardware required. The MEVD17 DME is flashed via the OBD port. BMW M3 CS Stage 1 unlocks 520 bhp and 700 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 460 / 600 stock). The BMW M3 CS chip tuning starting point, and the natural first modification for owners who buy the CS for its sharper character.

Every M3 CS tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW M3 CS tuning done correctly accounts for the CS chassis behaviour, the M-DCT calibration, the S55's rod-bearing condition and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.

FAQ

M3 CS tuning — frequently asked questions

Sixty horsepower and a hundred newton-metres: 460 bhp and 600 Nm becomes 520 bhp and 700 Nm. But the number undersells it. The factory CS calibration is aggressive at the top and conservative in the middle; Stage 1 evens that out, so the car feels stronger everywhere rather than just faster on paper.

That is a personal judgement, but the practical risks are smaller than they look. The tune is software only, fully reversible to the supplied stock file, and Samuel's calibrations sit within the S55's mechanical limits. Nothing is cut, drilled or discarded, and plenty of owners run tuned then return to factory before selling.

The 7-speed DCT handles Stage 1 and Stage 2 torque well in standard form, and a transmission calibration is available alongside the engine file for faster shifts and firmer clutch engagement under load. Samuel will advise whether your goals actually need it or whether the stock TCU behaviour is the better match.

That it deserves neither panic nor dismissal. The S55 hub discussion is well established in the community, and the pattern in reported failures points at torque shock and hard launching more than at tuning per se. Samuel builds torque delivery within sensible limits for your spec and flags when a build justifies addressing the hub mechanically.

Mechanically it is the same engine as every other S55 car, so yes, with a full-frame turbo, port injection or an HPFP lift kit, and a bespoke calibration. Whether that suits a limited-run saloon is your call; most CS owners stop at Stage 2, which keeps the driveline and fuel system standard.
