About this tune
The F87 LCI M2 Competition (2018-2021) is the S55-engined M2, replacing the N55 of the pre-LCI M2 with the same twin-scroll twin-turbo straight-six fitted to the F80 M3 and F82 M4. Stock is 410 bhp / 550 Nm, sent rear-wheel through either the 7-speed M-DCT or a 6-speed manual. RWD only. The smallest body BMW M fitted the S55 into, and one of the most tuner-popular M cars of the 2010s.
BMW M2 Competition tuning
The BMW M2 Competition (F87 LCI, 2016–2021) runs the S55 and leaves the factory at 410 bhp · 550 Nm, Rear-wheel drive, 7-speed DCT or 6-speed manual. Samuel tunes the F87 Coupe to the same standard — every map hand-calibrated for the specific car, its fuel grade and its installed hardware, not a base file loaded and left. M2 Competition Stage 1 alone takes it from 410 bhp · 550 Nm to 520 bhp · 700 Nm on the standard turbo, flashed over OBD on BM3, MHD or MG Flasher.
Add the Stage 2 hardware and the M2 Competition targets 560 bhp · 750 Nm; from there the S55 stretches to around 1200 bhp on a hybrid or big-turbo build with supporting fuelling. Whichever stage suits the M2 Competition, the file is delivered within 24 hours and is fully reversible to the supplied stock calibration.

BMW M2 Competition tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the F87 LCI S55
The F87 LCI M2 Competition (2018-2021) is the S55 dropped into the M2 body, replacing the N55-powered pre-LCI M2 with the same twin-scroll twin-turbo straight-six fitted to the F80 M3 and F82 M4. From the factory, BMW set the M2 Competition at 410 bhp / 550 Nm; the hardware ceiling sits considerably higher. BMW M2 Competition tuning with Samuel applies the same S55 Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Stage 2 Flex map family used on the F80 / F82 cars, with a calibration that translates the torque jump into the M2's tighter chassis. BMW M2 Comp tuning and BMW M2 Competition F87 tuning use the same map.
Stage 1
520 bhp · 700 Nm
No hardware required. The MEVD17 DME is flashed via the OBD port. BMW M2 Competition Stage 1 unlocks 520 bhp and 700 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 410 / 550 stock, a larger gain than the equivalent Stage 1 on the M3 / M4 because BMW shipped the M2 Comp with a more conservative software limiter). The BMW M2 Competition chip tuning starting point.
Every M2 Competition tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW M2 Competition tuning done correctly accounts for the F87 chassis behaviour, the M-DCT or manual gearbox calibration, the S55's rod-bearing condition and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.
Compatibility
Platform and hardware compatibility

Bootmod3 (BM3)
Full S55 support across every chassis in the F-series M family (F80 M3, F82 / F83 M4, F87 M2 Competition, F82 M4 CS / GTS, F80 M3 CS). MEVD17 DME OBD flashing, realtime monitoring via the BM3 app. The most widely used platform for S55 tuning.

MHD
Full S55 support, historically the dominant platform on the F-series M cars before BM3 caught up. Suitable for Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 2 Flex Fuel. Excellent data-logging toolset.

MG Flasher
Full S55 support. Clean interface and reliable flash process on the MEVD17 DME. A common alternative to BM3 / MHD for owners who prefer the MG ecosystem.

xHP Flashtool
Compatible with the 7-speed M-DCT (Getrag GS7D36BG) fitted to F-series M cars in automatic spec. Gearbox calibration matched to the ECU map, strongly recommended at Stage 2 and above where torque jumps significantly. Available as an add-on. Manual-gearbox cars do not need xHP.

ECU: MEVD17 DME across every S55 chassis. Accessible via OBD port, no bench flash required for Stage 1, Stage 2 or Stage 2 Flex Fuel.

FAQ
M2 Competition tuning — frequently asked questions
M2 Competition Stage 1 lifts the S55 from a stock 410 bhp · 550 Nm to 520 bhp · 700 Nm, with no hardware required. The map is flashed through the OBD port on BM3, MHD or MG Flasher and is the starting point for almost every M2 Competition owner — broader torque and sharper throttle response from the factory hardware.
This page covers the F87 Coupe (F87 LCI). They share the S55 engine and run the same core calibration, but every M2 Competition tune Samuel delivers is tailored to your exact car, fuel grade and installed hardware — never a base map loaded and left.
Stage 2 on the M2 Competition targets 560 bhp · 750 Nm and needs downpipes + midpipe + intakes. Everything else — turbo, fuel system, intercooler — holds within the Stage 2 figures on the S55.
On the right hardware spec the S55 in the M2 Competition reaches around 1200 bhp. Stage 1 and Stage 2 run the standard turbo; beyond that needs a hybrid or full big-turbo conversion with supporting fuelling, and the calibration is built bespoke per car.
Remotely. Once Samuel has your build details, the calibrated M2 Competition map is delivered to your flashing tool account (BM3, MHD or MG Flasher) within 24 hours and you flash it yourself over OBD in about 15 minutes. It's fully reversible — the original S55 stock file is supplied before you flash, so the car can return to factory at any time.
A factory warranty can be voided if BMW shows a tune caused a specific failure, so it's a personal call. Samuel's M2 Competition maps are calibrated to stay within the mechanical limits of the S55 hardware, and because the tune is reversible to stock before any dealer visit, many owners run a tuned M2 Competition without issue.
