BMW 530i tuning

An executive saloon first and a performance car second, the G30 530i — and its G31 Touring twin — is the sort of car that racks up motorway miles, and its owners usually come to Samuel wanting effortless overtaking rather than headline drama. The four-cylinder 5 Series is refined but noticeably held back in standard form, particularly on torque, which is precisely where a calibration helps most.

BMW quotes 248 bhp and 350 Nm for the standard 530i — notably less torque than the same engine makes in the 330i. Samuel's Stage 1 lifts it to 310 bhp and 520 Nm, an increase of 170 Nm that changes the character of a big saloon more than any other single figure could. Stage 2, with a downpipe and intake, targets 340 bhp and 550 Nm.

Going further, hybrid and full-frame turbo builds calibrate to around 500 bhp with supporting fuelling. Remote delivery suits a working executive car: no day surrendered to a workshop, the hand-finished file arrives in your BM3, MHD or MG Flasher account within 24 hours, you flash it over OBD at home, and the saved factory file means the car can always be returned to standard.

Engine guide

BMW 530i tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the G30 B48

The G30 530i runs the B48, BMW's 2.0-litre single-turbocharged inline-four, in saloon and G31 Touring form. From the factory, BMW calibrated the 530i to 248 bhp / 350 Nm, a more conservative limiter than the 330i / 430i despite shared engine hardware. BMW 530i tuning with Samuel closes that gap and unlocks the same Stage 1 / Stage 2 ceiling the rest of the B48 family targets. The G30 saloon and G31 Touring use the same map; only the build sheet differs slightly for the wagon exhaust geometry.

Stage 1

310 bhp · 520 Nm

No hardware required. The MG1CS003 DME is flashed via the OBD port, boost pressure, ignition timing, fuel delivery and torque limiters all revised. BMW 530i Stage 1 unlocks 310 bhp / 520 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 248 / 350 stock), with a substantially broader torque curve through the 5 Series mid-range.

Every 530i tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW 530i tuning done correctly accounts for the G30 chassis weight, the 8HP gearbox calibration and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.

FAQ

530i tuning — frequently asked questions

Because BMW set the standard car conservatively: 350 Nm stock, less than the same engine's 420 Nm in the 330i. Samuel's Stage 1 calibration brings the 530i to 310 bhp and 520 Nm — an extra 170 Nm — and it is the torque that rewrites how a big executive saloon overtakes and cruises.

The estate shares the saloon's engine, gearbox and DME, so the stages and figures are the same. Identical is the wrong word for the files themselves, though — Samuel calibrates every 530i individually, so a Touring on supermarket fuel and a saloon on 99 RON receive genuinely different maps.

Fitting a downpipe and upgraded intake, then a fresh calibration targeting 340 bhp and 550 Nm from the standard turbo. For a motorway car the appeal is less the peak figure and more the effortless mid-range that comes with it — big overtakes stop requiring a downshift and a plan.

That is the car it is designed for. The calibration stays inside the B48 hardware's mechanical limits, the delivery remains smooth enough for passengers not to notice, and the stock file is saved before anything is flashed. If circumstances change — a dealer visit, a sale — the car returns to factory in one flash.

Roughly 500 bhp with a hybrid or full-frame turbo, supported by downpipe, intake and uprated fuelling. Few 5 Series owners go that far, but the path exists and the calibration is bespoke when they do. Send Samuel the intended specification and he will confirm what the combination realistically supports.
