About this tune
The E89 Z4 sDrive35i (2010-2016) is the N55 in BMW's folding-hardtop roadster body, same engine and ECU as the 335i, in a compact two-seater chassis. Stock is 302 bhp / 400 Nm, sent rear-wheel through the 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT. The N55-engined Z4 is one of the lesser-known tuning chassis in the family but shares the full N55 hardware ceiling, and its low kerb weight makes the Stage 1 / Stage 2 transformation particularly dramatic.
BMW Z4 35i tuning
The N55 3.0-litre single-turbo straight-six in the E89 Z4 sDrive35i is the same engine fitted to the F30 335i, F22 M235i and F20 M135i — same MEVD17 DME, same hardware ceiling, but the lightest and most chassis-responsive of any N55 chassis. Stock is 302 bhp / 400 Nm, rear-wheel drive, 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT. Stage 1 targets 380 bhp / 500 Nm from OEM hardware: 78 bhp / 100 Nm gained with no mechanical changes. Stage 2 adds downpipe, intake and intercooler for 420 bhp / 550 Nm. Stage 2+ adds the B58 TU fuel pump for 440 bhp / 600 Nm — the fuelling upgrade that allows the N55 to hold timing further into the rev range. In the E89 roadster body, the Stage 2+ figure arrives at a chassis weight that makes it feel considerably more urgent than the equivalent 335i saloon. What the Z4 35i map revision covers: N55 stages explained
The E89 Z4 35i is the most chassis-responsive N55 platform — the lightest N55 body in the lineup, rear-wheel drive, and the one where the Stage 2+ fuel pump upgrade makes the biggest subjective difference per bhp because there is less mass to accelerate. Stage 1 targets 380 bhp / 500 Nm from OEM hardware; Stage 2 adds downpipe, intake and intercooler for 420 bhp / 550 Nm; Stage 2+ adds the B58 TU fuel pump for 440 bhp / 600 Nm.
