About this tune
The E89 Z4 sDrive35i (2010-2016) is the N55 in BMW's folding-hardtop roadster body, same engine and ECU as the 335i, in a compact two-seater chassis. Stock is 302 bhp / 400 Nm, sent rear-wheel through the 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT. The N55-engined Z4 is one of the lesser-known tuning chassis in the family but shares the full N55 hardware ceiling, and its low kerb weight makes the Stage 1 / Stage 2 transformation particularly dramatic.
BMW Z4 35i tuning
A two-seat roadster with a folding metal roof and a turbocharged straight-six is not an obvious tuning car, which is why the E89 Z4 sDrive35i stays under the radar. Built between 2010 and 2016 with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT, it is the most overlooked N55 of them all — and its low kerb weight means every extra newton-metre is felt more keenly than in the saloons.
Factory output is 302 bhp and 400 Nm to the rear wheels. Samuel's Stage 1 rewrites that to 380 bhp and 500 Nm without a single part changed, a step the Z4's compact body makes feel dramatic. Stage 2, once a downpipe, intake or panel filter and intercooler are on the car, targets 420 bhp and 550 Nm, with Stage 2+ and the B58 TU fuel pump good for 440 bhp and 600 Nm.
As with the rest of the family, the roadster's hardware ceiling is around 800 bhp, reached through hybrid or full-frame turbo builds with port injection and uprated fuelling. Samuel delivers the whole programme remotely: your calibration is written for your exact spec, uploaded to bootmod3, MHD or MG Flasher within a day of ordering, self-flashed via OBD, and reversible to BMW's original file for resale or servicing.

BMW Z4 35i tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the E89 N55
The E89 Z4 sDrive35i (2010-2016) is the N55 in BMW's folding-hardtop roadster body, same engine and ECU as the 335i and M135i, with the sDrive RWD layout. From the factory, BMW set the Z4 35i at 302 bhp / 400 Nm; the hardware ceiling sits considerably higher. BMW Z4 35i tuning with Samuel applies the same N55 Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Stage 2+ map family used across the lineup. BMW Z4 sDrive35i tuning and BMW Z4 35i E89 tuning use the same map.
Stage 1
380 bhp · 500 Nm
No hardware required. The MEVD17 DME is flashed via the OBD port. BMW Z4 35i Stage 1 unlocks 380 bhp and 500 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 302 / 400 stock). The BMW Z4 35i E89 chip tuning starting point.
Every Z4 35i tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW Z4 35i tuning done correctly accounts for the E89 roadster behaviour, the 6-speed automatic or 7-speed DCT gearbox calibration, and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.
Compatibility
Platform and hardware compatibility

Bootmod3 (BM3)
Full N55 support across every chassis in the family (M135i, M235i, 335i, 435i, 535i, 135i, X3 / Z4 35i, M2 N55). MEVD17 DME OBD flashing, realtime monitoring via the BM3 app. One of the most mature N55 tuning platforms.

MHD
Full N55 support, historically the dominant platform on the N55 before BM3 caught up. Suitable for Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 2+. Excellent data-logging toolset.

MG Flasher
Full N55 support. Clean interface and reliable flash process on the MEVD17 DME. A common alternative to BM3 / MHD for owners who prefer the MG ecosystem.

xHP Flashtool
Compatible with the ZF 8HP gearbox fitted to F-series N55 cars (M135i, M235i, 335i F30, 435i, 535i, X3 35i F25). Strongly recommended at Stage 2 and above. E-series N55 cars (135i E82, 335i E90 / E92 / E93, Z4 35i E89) use the ZF 6HP automatic or a 6-speed manual, xHP does not cover those gearboxes in the same way.

ECU: MEVD17.2 DME across most N55 production. Accessible via OBD port for Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 2+; bench-flash only required for some Stage 3 hybrid setups.

FAQ
Z4 35i tuning — frequently asked questions
The E89 moves from its factory 302 bhp and 400 Nm to 380 bhp and 500 Nm with nothing more than a recalibration, priced at £400. In a compact two-seater the extra torque is immediately obvious — the roadster simply becomes the faster car it always looked like it should be.
Yes — both the DCT and the 6-speed manual support the full staged programme at the same power targets. Samuel prepares the calibration for whichever transmission your car has, keeping shift behaviour factory-correct while the engine side changes. Declare the gearbox with your order so nothing is assumed.
To roughly 800 bhp at the very top of the hardware ladder — hybrid turbo first, then a full-frame kit with port injection and an uprated low-pressure fuel pump. Very few roadsters ever go that far, but the fact that the ceiling exists is part of the E89's appeal: the same engine family underpins some of the wildest N55 builds.
Higher-octane super unleaded, ideally 97-99 RON, gets the most from the calibration, and Samuel writes the file for the grade you tell him you use. A weekend car makes this easy — one consistent fuel from one consistent station keeps the map operating exactly as it was designed to.
Because £400 of calibration turns an overlooked, affordable roadster into something genuinely rapid while keeping the folding hardtop, the two-seat intimacy and the low running costs. Trading up to gain the same performance usually costs many times more — and the E89's rarity in tuning circles means the result feels far more personal.
