About this tune
The F30 / F31 335i (2012-2015) is the executive saloon and Touring variant of the N55, same engine, turbo and ECU as the M135i and 435i. Stock is 302 bhp / 400 Nm, sent through the ZF 8HP. Available as the F30 saloon and F31 Touring. The 335i was the volume seller of the F-platform 3 Series enthusiast lineup, a quiet, well-built executive car that hides one of the most tuneable BMW straight-sixes ever made.
BMW 335i tuning
On paper the F30 335i is simply a well-equipped executive saloon — and that understatement is the appeal. Built from 2012 to 2015 as the F30 saloon and F31 Touring, it was the volume enthusiast choice of its 3 Series generation, and the used market is full of tidy, sensibly priced examples. Owners tune it because it does everything a daily needs to, then leaves nearly 500 bhp of hardware headroom untouched.
Standard output is 302 bhp and 400 Nm through the ZF eight-speed. Samuel's Stage 1 file takes the 335i to 380 bhp and 500 Nm without touching a single component, and it costs £400. Adding a downpipe, an intake or panel filter and an uprated intercooler opens up Stage 2 at 420 bhp and 550 Nm — all still on the standard turbocharger.
Past that point the saloon follows the same hardware ladder as every N55: Stage 2+ brings the B58 TU fuel pump for 440 bhp and 600 Nm, and hybrid or big-turbo conversions stretch towards 800 bhp. Samuel builds each calibration remotely against your spec sheet and fuel grade, delivers it to bootmod3, MHD or MG Flasher within a day, and includes the stock file so the saloon or Touring can revert to factory instantly.

BMW 335i tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the F30 N55
The F30 / F31 335i (2012-2015) is the executive saloon and Touring variant of the N55, same engine block, turbo and ECU as the M135i, M235i and 435i, in a larger body. From the factory, BMW set the F30 335i at 302 bhp / 400 Nm; the hardware ceiling sits considerably higher and is shared across the N55 family. BMW 335i tuning with Samuel applies the same N55 Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Stage 2+ map family. BMW 335i F30 tuning and BMW 335i F31 tuning use the same map.
Stage 1
380 bhp · 500 Nm
No hardware required. The MEVD17 DME is flashed via the OBD port. BMW 335i Stage 1 unlocks 380 bhp and 500 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 302 / 400 stock, one of the largest stock-hardware Stage 1 gains in the BMW range). The BMW 335i chip tuning starting point and the single most popular modification on the F30 / F31 N55 platform.
Every 335i tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW 335i tuning done correctly accounts for the F30 / F31 chassis weight, the gearbox calibration and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.
Compatibility
Platform and hardware compatibility

Bootmod3 (BM3)
Full N55 support across every chassis in the family (M135i, M235i, 335i, 435i, 535i, 135i, X3 / Z4 35i, M2 N55). MEVD17 DME OBD flashing, realtime monitoring via the BM3 app. One of the most mature N55 tuning platforms.

MHD
Full N55 support, historically the dominant platform on the N55 before BM3 caught up. Suitable for Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 2+. Excellent data-logging toolset.

MG Flasher
Full N55 support. Clean interface and reliable flash process on the MEVD17 DME. A common alternative to BM3 / MHD for owners who prefer the MG ecosystem.

xHP Flashtool
Compatible with the ZF 8HP gearbox fitted to F-series N55 cars (M135i, M235i, 335i F30, 435i, 535i, X3 35i F25). Strongly recommended at Stage 2 and above. E-series N55 cars (135i E82, 335i E90 / E92 / E93, Z4 35i E89) use the ZF 6HP automatic or a 6-speed manual, xHP does not cover those gearboxes in the same way.

ECU: MEVD17.2 DME across most N55 production. Accessible via OBD port for Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 2+; bench-flash only required for some Stage 3 hybrid setups.

FAQ
335i tuning — frequently asked questions
An increase from 302 bhp and 400 Nm to 380 bhp and 500 Nm, achieved purely in software for £400. Response sharpens everywhere and the mid-range pull becomes the car's defining trait. Nothing is fitted, nothing is removed, and the saloon or Touring keeps its everyday manners between the moments you use the extra performance.
A downpipe, an intake or uprated panel filter, and an upgraded intercooler. Together they let the standard turbo support 420 bhp and 550 Nm without exhaust restriction or heat soak getting in the way. List exactly what is fitted when you order and Samuel calibrates the Stage 2 file to that hardware, not to an idealised spec.
No — the ZF 8HP is one of the stronger points of the F30 package and handles the Stage 1 and Stage 2 torque targets without complaint. Samuel sets those targets with the transmission's tolerances in mind rather than chasing peak numbers. For hybrid-turbo territory, the gearbox becomes part of the wider build conversation.
It is strongly recommended. The calibration Samuel writes is matched to the octane you declare, and 97-99 RON fuel lets the N55 run its ignition timing without pulling back. Running the map on lower-grade petrol than it was built for costs performance and margin, so be honest about what your local forecourt sells.
Entirely remotely. After you order and confirm the car's details, Samuel writes the calibration and loads it to your bootmod3, MHD or MG Flasher account within 24 hours. You flash it through the OBD port at home. The factory file is preserved first, so a return to standard is always one flash away.
