About this tune
The F22 M235i (2014-2016) is the pre-LCI 2 Series with the N55, same engine, gearbox and ECU as the M135i in a slightly larger coupe body. Stock is 322 bhp / 450 Nm (M-Performance trim), sent rear-wheel through the ZF 8HP. F22 coupe only, no convertible variant of the M235i. The platform that became the F87 M2 pre-LCI; the M235i shares chassis architecture and engine with that car at a substantially lower price point.
BMW M235i tuning
Think of the F22 M235i as the M2's quieter sibling: same basic architecture, same N55 straight-six, a subtler two-door body and a substantially lower used price. Built from 2014 to 2016 as a coupe only, it appeals to owners who want a compact rear-driven BMW they can develop over time — and tuning is where the gap to the M2 closes fastest.
Samuel starts with what the car actually has: 322 bhp and 450 Nm in standard M Performance trim. His Stage 1 calibration takes the F22 to 380 bhp and 500 Nm with no supporting hardware, while Stage 2 — downpipe, intake or panel filter and intercooler — brings 420 bhp and 550 Nm, which is beyond what the N55 M2 left the factory with.
Owners who keep going have a long road ahead: Stage 2+ adds the B58 TU fuel pump for 440 bhp and 600 Nm, and the M235i's hardware ceiling sits around 800 bhp on a full big-turbo build. Each file is written for your exact car and flashed by you over OBD with bootmod3, MHD or MG Flasher — delivered inside 24 hours, reversible to the stock calibration at any point.

BMW M235i tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the F22 N55
The F22 M235i (2014-2016) is the pre-LCI 2 Series with the N55, same engine, gearbox and ECU as the M135i in a slightly larger coupe body. From the factory, BMW set the M235i at 322 bhp / 450 Nm; the hardware ceiling sits considerably higher and is shared across the N55 family. BMW M235i tuning with Samuel applies the same N55 Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Stage 2+ map family used on the M135i, 335i, 435i and 535i.
Stage 1
380 bhp · 500 Nm
No hardware required. The MEVD17 DME is flashed via the OBD port. BMW M235i Stage 1 unlocks 380 bhp and 500 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 322 / 450 stock). The BMW M235i chip tuning starting point, the most cost-effective change on the F22 N55 platform.
Every M235i tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW M235i tuning done correctly accounts for the F22 chassis behaviour, the gearbox calibration and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.
Compatibility
Platform and hardware compatibility

Bootmod3 (BM3)
Full N55 support across every chassis in the family (M135i, M235i, 335i, 435i, 535i, 135i, X3 / Z4 35i, M2 N55). MEVD17 DME OBD flashing, realtime monitoring via the BM3 app. One of the most mature N55 tuning platforms.

MHD
Full N55 support, historically the dominant platform on the N55 before BM3 caught up. Suitable for Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 2+. Excellent data-logging toolset.

MG Flasher
Full N55 support. Clean interface and reliable flash process on the MEVD17 DME. A common alternative to BM3 / MHD for owners who prefer the MG ecosystem.

xHP Flashtool
Compatible with the ZF 8HP gearbox fitted to F-series N55 cars (M135i, M235i, 335i F30, 435i, 535i, X3 35i F25). Strongly recommended at Stage 2 and above. E-series N55 cars (135i E82, 335i E90 / E92 / E93, Z4 35i E89) use the ZF 6HP automatic or a 6-speed manual, xHP does not cover those gearboxes in the same way.

ECU: MEVD17.2 DME across most N55 production. Accessible via OBD port for Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 2+; bench-flash only required for some Stage 3 hybrid setups.

FAQ
M235i tuning — frequently asked questions
380 bhp and 500 Nm, up from the standard 322 bhp and 450 Nm, with no hardware changes and nothing removed from the car. Samuel writes the calibration for your specific F22 and its fuel, you flash it through the OBD socket with bootmod3, MHD or MG Flasher, and the whole job is done on the driveway in well under half an hour.
Beyond the 420 bhp and 550 Nm of Stage 2, the N55's standard high-pressure fuel pump becomes the limiting factor. Fitting the pump from the later B58 TU engine restores fuelling headroom, which is what allows the Stage 2+ file to hold 440 bhp and 600 Nm cleanly. It joins the downpipe, intake or panel filter and intercooler already required at Stage 2.
The ZF 8HP fitted to the F22 has a strong reputation and copes well with the Stage 1 and Stage 2 torque figures, which Samuel sets deliberately with the transmission in mind. Shift behaviour stays factory unless you choose to change it. For big-power hybrid builds, the whole drivetrain is discussed as part of the build plan before any file is written.
The hardware ceiling on the F22's N55 is around 800 bhp. Getting there means a full-frame turbo, port injection, an uprated low-pressure fuel pump and supporting hardware, with a hybrid turbo build as the intermediate step. Every calibration at that level is bespoke — send Samuel the complete parts list and the file is built around it, not adapted from a template.
You order the stage, share the car's details and any fitted hardware, and Samuel writes the calibration by hand. Within 24 hours it appears in your bootmod3, MHD or MG Flasher account, ready to flash over OBD yourself. The original BMW file is saved first, so the coupe can be put back to standard at any time.
