About this tune
The F25 X3 xDrive28i (2011-2017) is the N20 in BMW's mid-size SUV body, same engine and ECU as the 328i and 428i, in a taller xDrive body. Stock is 245 bhp / 350 Nm, sent through the ZF 8HP. The four-cylinder X3, chosen for fuel economy from new, but the N20 underneath responds well to a remap.

The N20 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four in the F25 X3 28i is the same engine fitted to the F30 328i, F32 428i and F20 125i — same MEVD17.2 DME, same hardware ceiling, different body. Samuel calibrates the F25 xDrive28i SUV to the same standard: 280 bhp / 400 Nm at Stage 1 from OEM hardware, flashed over OBD. Stage 2 adds downpipe, intake and intercooler for 320 bhp / 450 Nm. The X3's xDrive and additional kerb weight mean the torque increase is felt differently than in the lighter F30/F32 siblings — particularly in overtake pull and motorway load conditions. What the X3 28i map revision covers: N20 stages explained
The numbers gap from factory to Stage 2 hardware ceiling is larger on the N20 than the car's economy positioning implies: 35 bhp / 50 Nm at Stage 1, 75 bhp / 100 Nm at Stage 2. In the heavier X3 body, the torque gain lands with more body movement than in the F30 saloon — particularly at motorway speeds where the SUV weight is working against the standard calibration. Stage 1 targets 280 bhp / 400 Nm from OEM hardware; Stage 2 adds downpipe, intake and intercooler for 320 bhp / 450 Nm. Stage 3 is bespoke around whatever hybrid turbo spec is submitted. Every map is log-reviewed after the first flash before sign-off.
