About this tune
The F30 / F31 328i (2012-2015) is the volume four-cylinder 3 Series, N20 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four in F30 saloon and F31 Touring form. Stock is 245 bhp / 350 Nm, sent through the ZF 8HP. The biggest-selling F30 enthusiast trim worldwide; the N20 underneath is well understood by every major flashing platform.
BMW 328i tuning
No four-cylinder BMW of its era sold in bigger numbers than the F30 328i. Offered from 2012 to 2015 as the saloon and the F31 Touring, it was the default choice of the 3 Series range, which today means huge used supply, sensible prices and endless parts support. Owners tune it because the platform deserves it: an everyday exec with a proven engine and plenty locked away in software.
Standard output is 245 bhp and 350 Nm. Samuel's Stage 1 file takes the 328i to 280 bhp and 400 Nm without touching a single component, transforming how the saloon pulls from low revs through the motorway range. Add the Stage 2 hardware set, downpipe, intake and intercooler, and the target moves to 320 bhp and 450 Nm, still on the factory turbocharger.
For those who want the full journey, a hybrid turbo opens the door to around 400 bhp, with the calibration built individually around the fitted spec. Delivery is entirely remote: your hand-written file lands in BM3, MHD or MG Flasher within 24 hours of Samuel receiving your build details, and because the stock calibration is retained, the 328i can be returned to showroom software at will.

BMW 328i tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the F30 N20
The F30 / F31 328i (2012-2015) is the volume four-cylinder 3 Series, N20 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four in F30 saloon and F31 Touring form. From the factory, BMW set the 328i at 245 bhp / 350 Nm; the N20 hardware ceiling sits considerably higher and is shared across every chassis in the family. BMW 328i tuning with Samuel applies the same N20 Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Stage 3 map family. BMW 328i F30 tuning and BMW 328i F31 tuning use the same map, same drivetrain, same calibration.
Stage 1
280 bhp · 400 Nm
No hardware required. The MEVD17 DME is flashed via the OBD port. BMW 328i Stage 1 unlocks 280 bhp and 400 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 245 / 350 stock). The BMW 328i chip tuning starting point and the most popular single modification on the F30 / F31 N20 platform.
Every 328i tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW 328i tuning done correctly accounts for the F30 / F31 chassis weight, the 8HP gearbox calibration and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.

FAQ
328i tuning — frequently asked questions
An extra 35 bhp and 50 Nm, moving the car from 245 bhp and 350 Nm to 280 bhp and 400 Nm on standard hardware. The gain arrives mostly through the mid-range, where the F30 spends its life, so the everyday difference feels larger than the headline numbers suggest. It is flashed at home through the OBD port.
Usually, with one caveat. Early N20s have a well-known discussion around timing-chain guide wear, so on a pre-2015 car it is worth confirming the chain has been inspected or replaced before adding power. On a healthy, serviced engine, Stage 1 sits comfortably within the hardware's limits, and Samuel can calibrate conservatively if you would rather prioritise longevity.
Yes, both bodies carry the identical N20 drivetrain and ECU, so the Touring runs the same stages to the same figures. Samuel still builds each file against the individual car rather than the body style, factoring in your fuel, hardware and how the car is used, which for many Touring owners means family duty with a proper overtaking reserve.
A hybrid turbocharger. Keeping the downpipe, intake and intercooler from Stage 2 and adding an uprated turbo takes the N20 to around 400 bhp depending on spec, with the map written bespoke for your exact setup. It is the point where the 328i stops being a brisk exec and becomes a genuinely fast car, so supporting mods deserve thought.
No. The whole service is remote: you supply your car details and hardware list, Samuel calibrates the file by hand, and it is delivered to your flashing platform of choice, BM3, MHD or MG Flasher, within 24 hours. You flash it yourself over OBD, and reverting to the original software takes minutes if you ever need to.
