About this tune
The F32 / F33 / F36 428i (2013-2016) is the four-cylinder 4 Series, N20 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four in coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe form. Stock is 245 bhp / 350 Nm, sent through the ZF 8HP. The GT-flavoured four-cylinder pick of the F-platform range; tunes to the same N20 ceiling as the rest of the family.
BMW 428i tuning
Style is the reason the 428i exists. Between 2013 and 2016 BMW offered the N20 in three 4 Series bodies, the F32 coupé, F33 convertible and F36 Gran Coupé, for buyers who wanted the sleeker roofline over the F30's practicality. Owners tune it because the styling promises more pace than the standard four-cylinder delivers, and software is the cheapest honest fix.
Every 428i starts at 245 bhp and 350 Nm through the ZF 8-speed. Samuel's Stage 1 calibration lifts that to 280 bhp and 400 Nm using nothing but the factory hardware, giving the car the shove its silhouette suggests. Stage 2, once a downpipe, intake and intercooler are fitted, raises the standard turbo's output to 320 bhp and 450 Nm.
The N20 platform tops out around 400 bhp with a hybrid turbo and matching supporting hardware, and Samuel calibrates those builds individually rather than from a template. Whichever body you drive, the process is identical and fully remote: submit the build, receive your bespoke file through BM3, MHD or MG Flasher inside 24 hours, flash it yourself, and keep the stock file for a clean return to factory.

BMW 428i tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the F32 N20
The F32 / F33 / F36 428i (2013-2016) is the four-cylinder 4 Series, N20 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four in coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe form. From the factory, BMW set the 428i at 245 bhp / 350 Nm; the N20 hardware ceiling sits considerably higher and is shared across the platform. BMW 428i tuning with Samuel applies the same N20 Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Stage 3 map family used on the 328i. BMW 428i F32 tuning, BMW 428i F33 tuning and BMW 428i F36 tuning use the same map.
Stage 1
280 bhp · 400 Nm
No hardware required. The MEVD17 DME is flashed via the OBD port. BMW 428i Stage 1 unlocks 280 bhp and 400 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 245 / 350 stock). The BMW 428i chip tuning starting point.
Every 428i tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW 428i tuning done correctly accounts for the F32 / F33 / F36 body weights, the 8HP gearbox calibration and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.

FAQ
428i tuning — frequently asked questions
All three. The F32, F33 and F36 share the same N20 engine, ECU and ZF 8-speed, so every stage on this page applies across the range. Samuel tailors each file to the specific car submitted, so a convertible driven gently and a Gran Coupé used hard will not receive the same calibration even at the same stage.
Three supporting parts: downpipe, intake and intercooler. With those fitted the standard turbocharger can support 320 bhp and 450 Nm, up from Stage 1's 280 bhp and 400 Nm. Send Samuel the exact brands and specs when ordering; the file is calibrated to the hardware that is genuinely installed rather than to an assumed parts list.
It needs the fuel the map was written for. Tell Samuel what you run and the calibration is matched to it: super unleaded allows the most aggressive safe timing and the full advertised figures, while a 95 RON file trades a little peak output for margin. Mixing a super-fuel map with supermarket 95 is the one thing to avoid.
Production ended in 2016, so original manufacturer cover has lapsed on every 428i; what remains is typically a used-car or extended warranty, and those policies differ on modifications, so check yours. Samuel's calibrations stay inside the N20's mechanical tolerances, and the tune can be flashed back to the retained stock file before any warranty assessment.
For headroom relative to cost, yes. Stage 1 adds 35 bhp with no hardware spend, and Stage 2's 320 bhp takes the 428i past the factory output of a standard 435i for far less money than the six-cylinder car commands. The N55 ultimately stretches further, but on pace per pound the tuned four-cylinder makes the stronger case.
