About this tune

The MkV Toyota Supra 3.0 (J29 / DB, 2019-present) is the Toyota-badged half of a joint platform shared with the BMW Z4 M40i, same B58 Gen 2 engine, same ZF 8HP, same MG1CS003 ECU. Stock is 382 bhp / 500 Nm in the A91 LCI cars (pre-LCI A90 cars were rated lower in some markets but ran the same hardware). Available only as the J29 coupe. The Supra is the most popular B58 Gen 2 chassis for big-power builds globally, the aftermarket is mature, and the drag-strip and time-attack culture around it pushes the platform hard.

Toyota Supra 3.0 tuning

Underneath the Toyota badge, the MkV Supra runs BMW's Gen 2 B58 straight-six, a ZF eight-speed and a BMW ECU, which is why it sits on Samuel's books alongside the Z4 and M340i. It is also the chassis the global B58 scene pushes hardest: drag builds, time-attack cars and a parts catalogue deeper than any BMW-badged sibling. Most Supra owners tune not because the car is slow, but because the platform so obviously has more in it.

An A91-era Supra 3.0 leaves the line at 382 bhp and 500 Nm. Samuel's Stage 1 calibration brings that to 440 bhp and 680 Nm on untouched hardware, and pre-LCI A90 cars take the same stages since the mechanical package never changed. With a downpipe and intake in place, Stage 2 raises the target to 480 bhp and 700 Nm, still spooling the factory turbo.

That mature aftermarket means the ladder keeps climbing: hybrid units and full-frame conversions with port injection take Supra builds towards the platform's 1,000 bhp ceiling. Delivery works the same as for any B58, handled remotely, flashed yourself through the OBD port on bootmod3, MHD or MG Flasher, with the file written within 24 hours and reversible because your stock calibration is saved before anything changes.

Toyota Supra 3.0 tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the J29 B58

The MkV Supra (J29 / DB) runs BMW's B58 Gen 2, the same engine fitted to the M340i, M440i and Z4 M40i (the Supra and Z4 share a complete platform). From the factory, Toyota set the Supra 3.0 at 382 bhp / 500 Nm; the hardware ceiling sits considerably higher. Toyota Supra tuning with Samuel applies the same Gen 2 Stage 1 / Stage 2 map family used on every B58 Gen 2 chassis, the underlying hardware is identical. Whether it's a Toyota Supra A90 tuning project or the later A91 LCI, the calibration plan is the same.

440 bhp · 680 Nm

No hardware required. The MG1CS003 DME is flashed via the OBD port. Toyota Supra Stage 1 unlocks 440 bhp and 680 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 382 / 500 stock). The Toyota Supra chip tuning starting point and by far the most popular single modification on the J29 platform, the most cost-effective change you can make.

Every Toyota Supra tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. Toyota Supra tuning done correctly accounts for the J29 chassis behaviour, the 8HP gearbox calibration and the global fuel-quality variation across the Supra owner base; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.

Supra 3.0 tuning — frequently asked questions

Yes. The Supra's DME is BMW hardware, the same MG1CS003 unit fitted to the Z4 M40i and M340i, and bootmod3, MHD and MG Flasher all support it. You flash through the OBD port exactly as a BMW owner would, and Samuel delivers the calibrated file to whichever of those platforms you run.

They do. Early cars were rated below the A91's 382 bhp in some markets, but the mechanical package never changed, so Stage 1 targets the same 440 bhp and 680 Nm and Stage 2 the same 480 bhp and 700 Nm. Samuel confirms your model year and region when building the file so the calibration matches your exact DME.

A downpipe and an intake, the same recipe as the rest of the platform, and the Supra aftermarket offers more choice here than any of its BMW cousins. Once they are fitted, the standard turbo is calibrated to 480 bhp and 700 Nm, a level the factory engine internals carry comfortably.

Because the aftermarket is deepest here. Full-frame turbo kits, port-injection systems and uprated fuel pumps were developed on this chassis first, driven by drag and time-attack culture. That is what makes the platform's roughly 1,000 bhp ceiling realistic on a Supra, and every build at that level gets a bespoke calibration around its exact parts list.

Fuel grade is baked into every file Samuel writes: you state what the car runs and the map is calibrated for it. Ethanol blends and race fuels are treated as custom calibration work rather than an off-the-shelf stage, and they matter most on hybrid and big-turbo builds where fuelling becomes the limiting factor.
