About this tune

The F22 / F23 M240i (2016-2018) is the GT-flavoured coupe and convertible variant of the B58 Gen 1 platform, same engine and 8HP gearbox as the M140i in a slightly larger body. Stock is 335 bhp / 500 Nm. Available as the F22 coupe and F23 convertible. The F22 M240i is widely regarded as one of the best B58 Gen 1 chassis for daily-drivable Stage 2 builds, size and weight balance the torque better than the lighter M140i.

BMW M240i tuning

Take the running gear that made the M140i famous, stretch it under a longer two-door body, and you have the M240i. The F22 coupé built a reputation as the enthusiast's pick of the small BMWs — balanced, rear-driven and endlessly capable — while the F23 offered the same thing with the roof folded. Owners tune the M240i because it delivers most of an M2's character for a fraction of the outlay.

Both bodies leave BMW with 335 bhp and 500 Nm. Samuel's Stage 1 calibration raises the M240i to 420 bhp and 600 Nm with the hardware untouched, and because the F22 carries its weight so well the extra torque stays genuinely usable. Stage 2 — downpipe plus intake — moves the target to 450 bhp and 650 Nm on the standard turbo, with Stage 2+ and the TU pump good for 480 bhp and 680 Nm.

When the stock turbo stops being enough, hybrid and big-turbo builds take the platform to around 1,000 bhp, each one calibrated from scratch against the exact hardware fitted. Distance is irrelevant to the process: describe your build, and inside 24 hours a bespoke file appears in your BM3, MHD or MG Flasher account ready to flash over OBD, with the factory calibration kept on hand so you can step back to stock whenever you choose.

Engine guide

BMW M240i tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the F22 B58 Gen 1

The M240i runs the B58 Gen 1, the same 3.0-litre single-turbocharged inline-six fitted to the M140i, 340i and 440i. From the factory, BMW left the F22 M240i calibrated to 335 bhp / 500 Nm; the hardware ceiling sits considerably higher. BMW M240i tuning with Samuel unlocks that headroom across the operating range, with a calibration matched to the F22 coupe or F23 convertible's weight balance and gearbox setup. Whether it's a BMW M240i F22 tuning project or the F23 cabrio, the calibration plan is identical.

Stage 1

420 bhp · 600 Nm

No hardware required. The MG1CS003 / MEVD17 DME is flashed via the OBD port, boost, ignition timing, fuel delivery and torque limiters all revised. On the M240i the result is 420 bhp / 600 Nm (up from 335 / 500 stock). The single most cost-effective change available on the F22 / F23 platform, and the BMW M240i chip tuning starting point for nearly every owner who goes down the modification path.

Every M240i tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW M240i tuning done correctly accounts for the F22 chassis behaviour, the 8HP gearbox calibration and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.

FAQ

M240i tuning — frequently asked questions

Mechanically they are the same car underneath — identical B58 Gen 1, identical ZF eight-speed, identical stage targets. The difference is how the body uses the power: the F22's longer footprint makes a Stage 2 level of torque feel more composed, which is why it is often recommended as the best B58 Gen 1 chassis for a daily-driven build.

Stage 2 targets 450 bhp and 650 Nm from the standard turbo. The hardware list is short: a downpipe — which means an OPF delete on 2018-on cars — and an intake or upgraded panel filter. Samuel checks the exact parts fitted before writing the file, so the map matches what is actually bolted to your car.

Yes. The F23 shares the F22's engine, gearbox and electronics, so every stage from the £400 Stage 1 through to a big-turbo build applies equally. The file is still calibrated individually — your fuel, your hardware, your car — rather than a coupé map copied across.

You never bring the car anywhere. Order the stage, send Samuel your M240i's details and hardware list, and within 24 hours a hand-built calibration is delivered to your BM3, MHD or MG Flasher account. You flash it through the OBD port yourself in around fifteen minutes, and the stock file is saved first so reverting is always possible.

Two routes: a hybrid turbo, or a full-frame big-turbo kit with an uprated fuel pump — Dorsche, Spool or similar. Either way the output lands somewhere between 550 and 1,000 bhp depending on the spec, port injection joins the picture at the top end, and Samuel builds the calibration around your full parts list rather than a generic template.
