About this tune
The F32 / F33 / F36 440i (2015-2020) is the coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe variant of the B58 Gen 1, same engine block, turbo and 8HP gearbox as the M140i, M240i and 340i, with a conservative factory calibration of 326 bhp / 450 Nm. The detune is purely software, which is why Stage 1 on the 440i targets the same 420 bhp / 600 Nm figure as the rest of the family. Available as the F32 coupe, F33 convertible and F36 Gran Coupe.
BMW 440i tuning
The 440i covered more ground than any other B58 Gen 1 car: F32 coupé, F33 convertible and F36 Gran Coupé, sold from 2015 to 2020 as the grand-touring face of the range. Whichever shape it wears, underneath sits the same six-cylinder platform as the M140i and M240i, and that is why so many 440i owners end up on this page — the elegant body is hiding serious mechanical headroom.
Factory output is a deliberately modest 326 bhp and 450 Nm, held back in software rather than hardware. Samuel's Stage 1 releases that restriction and carries the 440i to 420 bhp and 600 Nm on completely standard components. With a downpipe fitted — including an OPF delete on 2018-on cars — plus an intake, Stage 2 raises the target to 450 bhp and 650 Nm, and Stage 2+ with the TU fuel pump reaches 480 bhp and 680 Nm.
A 440i that outgrows its standard turbo moves into hybrid or big-turbo territory, where the calibration is a one-off and the ceiling sits near 1,000 bhp. The logistics stay simple at every stage: everything travels over the internet, your map is written and returned inside 24 hours, you flash it yourself through BM3, MHD or MG Flasher, and the untouched factory file stays archived should the car ever need to go back.

BMW 440i tuning, stages, hardware and what to expect from the F32 B58 Gen 1
The 440i runs the B58 Gen 1 in F32 coupe, F33 convertible and F36 Gran Coupe form, the same engine block and turbo as the M140i, M240i and 340i. BMW set the F32 440i's factory calibration at 326 bhp / 450 Nm, a more conservative software limiter than the M-Performance variants. The hardware is identical, which is why BMW 440i tuning with Samuel targets the same Stage 1 figure as the rest of the family. The map applies identically across F32, F33 and F36, same drivetrain, same calibration.
Stage 1
420 bhp · 600 Nm
No hardware required. The MG1CS003 / MEVD17 DME is flashed via the OBD port, boost, ignition timing, fuel delivery and torque limiters all revised. BMW 440i Stage 1 unlocks 420 bhp / 600 Nm from the OEM hardware (up from 326 / 450 stock). One of the largest stock-hardware Stage 1 gains in the BMW range, the BMW 440i chip tuning starting point for almost every owner who modifies the car.
Every 440i tune Samuel produces is calibrated individually for the specific car, fuel grade and installed hardware, not a base map loaded and left. BMW 440i tuning done correctly accounts for the F32 / F33 / F36 body weights, the 8HP gearbox calibration and UK fuel quality; the map is reviewed against your data logs after the first flash and revised before sign-off.
Compatibility
Platform and hardware compatibility

Bootmod3 (BM3)
Full B58 Gen 1 support across the MEVD17 (early) and MG1CS003 (later) DMEs. OBD-port flashing, realtime monitoring via the BM3 app. The most widely used platform for B58 Gen 1 tuning.

FAQ
440i tuning — frequently asked questions
The stages and targets are identical across all three — coupé, convertible and Gran Coupé share the drivetrain outright. What changes is the individual calibration: Samuel builds each 440i file around that specific car's fuel, hardware and intended use, so two F36s ordering the same stage can still receive subtly different maps.
Nothing needs fitting. Stage 1 is purely a calibration change that takes the 440i from its factory 326 bhp and 450 Nm to 420 bhp and 600 Nm — the output the software-restricted engine was always capable of. It costs £400 and flashes through the OBD port using BM3, MHD or MG Flasher.
No. The F-series 440i predates the locked DMEs found on later G-series BMWs, so there is no unlock step — the ECU accepts the map directly over OBD through your flashing platform. That keeps the process quick: order, send your details, receive the file, flash it on the driveway.
Stage 3 is where the parts list grows: either a hybrid turbo or a full-frame kit, supported by an uprated fuel pump such as a Dorsche or Spool unit, with port injection alongside on high-output builds. Results range from 550 to 1,000 bhp depending entirely on the spec, and every calibration is developed against your exact combination.
With production ending in 2020, most 440is are now outside BMW's factory warranty, which removes the biggest worry. Insurance is different: a remap is a declarable modification and you should tell your insurer whichever stage you run. The tune itself is reversible — the stock calibration is supplied with your file, so the car can be returned to standard.
